Happy Halloween

Halloween isn’t really celebrated in Poland. It’s becoming more popular for the last couple of years, but since we have a rather serious holiday tomorrow and many people leave their homes to visit their family graves in different parts of the country, most people don’t go out tonight. I find Halloween fun and it would be great to celebrate it… if it only was on some other day!  However I would like to wish lots of fun tonight to everyone who celebrates Halloween.

Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.

Thrice and once the hedge-pig whined.

Harpier cries 'Tis time, 'tis time.

Round about the cauldron go;
In the poison'd entrails throw.
Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights has thirty-one
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf,
Witches' mummy, maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark,
Root of hemlock digg'd i' the dark,
Liver of blaspheming Jew,
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Silver'd in the moon's eclipse,
Nose of Turk and Tartar's lips,
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For the ingredients of our cauldron.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

It's a fragment of "Macbeth", scene 4 act 1. I thought it would be appropriate for today. And below - a song I've been having in my mind all day long. Enjoy :)

Letters letters

I had no letters for almost three empty weeks, but “bad times” passed away in the end of this week, when I got four letters in just two days! Such a joy :D I wonder if the letters prefer to travel in groups, because it happens quite often that I have nothing to reply to and then several letters come at one time. Does that happen to you?

Plus, I had my first Russian class today and my new teacher seems to be better than the last one. I really like how Russian language sounds. And my Spanish classes start next week, I’m already excited! I wish my brain could adopt languages faster, I have few more on my wish list.

Just a note in languages that I know or learn.

My name and the name of my penpal in Japanese.

A postcard from... Mexico City, Mexico

I was writing about pubic transport just yestrerday
and today I found this postcard in a letter from my penpal.
(It's not creased or anything like that, it's just my scanner)

A little bit of girly jabber

It’s getting cold. I should be used to fall and winter coming after hot summer, but I still can’t reconcile myself to the cold weather. The only good things about it are fireplace, sauna and… scarves!

I did some shopping yesterday and bought an owl shape bag. It’s for children actually but I couldn’t resist buying it. It’s too cute. Tell me I’m not the only one buying articles for children, please :P

Also, I bought a DVD with Spanish movie – “Azuloscurocasinegro” (“DarkBlueAlmostBlack”). It obviously became one more reason of my love for European cinema. Such a great story, imaginative but somehow realistic. And the actor playing main character is so handsome ;P

I got a text message from my friend from university telling that it’s been 5 years since the day we all met (1st October is a first day of school year for students) and we should soon make an “integration” party. I didn’t think today is any special day and it turned out to be such an anniversary :) How time floats…

Some time ago I agreed with my first penpal that we’d re-start penpalling. The “problem” is we see each other from time to time and communicate through internet or phone quite often so it’s a bit weird to write letters to each other now, but still it’s fun:) I just wrote her a letter three days ago but didn’t have time to post it and I’m seeing her tomorrow so… I’ll just handle it to her. Weird, isn’t it?

Hmm, this post doesn’t make much sense, a bit of this, a bit of that… a lot of nothing. I’ll leave it like that and better go to read a book in front of a fireplace :D
